For some of you, it might be that time in the summer when you are wondering, what to do with all that Kale?  Kale is delicious, but it can sometimes be overwhelming to keep consuming all those leafy greens.  While I love making The Breakfast of Champions, it is nice to get some variety out of a vegetable so I decided to try something new.

For years my husband has told me about the sausage and kale soup his old roommate use to make.  When I tried to get more information from hubby to get an idea of the recipe, he told me it was cooked in a crock pot, had sausage, kale, and potatoes, and was amazing.  Since that was not enough to go on, I turned to the web and found this recipe for portuguese kale soup which I figured would do the trick.

This was definitely a nice change of pace for kale.  Cooking it in the form of soup changed the texture and flavor because it soaked up all the tasty broth.  Plus, it is always fun to have a veggie in a new recipe.

I loves me some pizza.  I started making homemade pizza as a kid on camping trips.  It was so fun warming it up over the camp fire and even the times I ate it when we did not have a fire to warm it on.  When I got a bit older, I brought the homemade pizza into the kitchen and my mom made me make it every time I came home from college.  Some times we get very fancy with homemade crust.  But I think I like it more when I eat it on pitas as if I was a kid again camping in the Northwoods.

Sage Sausage Farro

We got a bunch of sage from our CSA and decided to make a dish in which it could be the stand out ingredient.  I had never cooked with sage before but I really like its flavor.  It is sort of a rustic flavor that reminds me of being in the forest.  I used another new ingredient, farro which is wheat grains.  Farro has a mild taste, soft pasta consistency, and looks like honey smacks so whats not to love?

Okay, you got me.  This is just an egg sandwich, but it is not any egg sandwich.  I am using this entry to brag about and explain our wonderful CSA, Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm.  Besides my husband’s homemade bread, the other ingredients come from Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm.  This family farm has been providing us with meat and eggs for almost two years and we could not be happier.  We pay for 3 or 6 months at a time and once a month we get a bushel of meat.  That is just my nickname for it, but it is really a freezer bag full and ranges from chicken, pork chops, bacon, steak, burgers, italian sausage, and the sausage patties pictured here.  We also get eggs!  I cannot express how wonderful this meat is.  At least half a dozen of my friends have signed up with Cedar Valley Sustainable Farm and are very happy customers.  You should check them out too!

Also, if you are interested in finding your own CSA, check out this website: http://www.localharvest.org/csa/
